Penguin x National Literacy Trust
In collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, Penguin asked beloved illustrator Quentin Blake to dream up an original piece celebrating the transformative power of reading. The resulting piece, entitled ‘Flying on their Books’, celebrates the way that reading activates our imaginations and transports us into new worlds. Profits from sales of this print will go to benefit the National Literacy Trust.
The future of reading and writing in the UK depends on the National Literacy Trust, who are working hard to ensure the most vulnerable children are supported as they return to the classroom during pandemic recovery. Support them by bringing this special edition print into your home. At least £38 of each framed print and £20 of each unframed print will directly support the National Literacy Trust.
About Sir Quentin Blake, the artist
“I always enjoy drawing birds, particularly in flight; and as well as that I very much like drawing people flying, sometimes with wings and sometimes just by flapping their arms. It’s amazing what you can do in a drawing - and of course you can fly on a book if you want to. What I like about these drawings is that they suggest what reading can do for children, younger people and in fact for all of us – help us take off into the realms of the imagination.”Quentin Blake
Sir Quentin Blake is one of Britain’s leading contemporary illustrators, and a mainstay of children’s literature. Best known for his close collaboration with Roald Dahl, he’s illustrated over 300 books and taught illustration at the Royal College of Art for over twenty years. Sir Quentin Blake is the founder of House of Illustration – now the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration – which aims to make illustration accessible to all ages and backgrounds.
